Dear Ms./Mr. ____________,
My name is Ariel Brisman and I am interested in the possible [position] at your school. My faculty advisor mentioned the opening to me and relayed some information about the position. I was eager to get in contact with you based on the excellent reputation your school holds at Manhattan College.
I think I am a good candidate for a [position] at your school. I hold my initial New York State certification (1-6) as of May 2012 and am currently working towards my Master of Science degree in special education and my initial certification (special education), pending May 2013. As of this term I have completed 27 credits of graduate work and am able to work under an internship certificate.
As noted in my résumé I have experience at a private preschool working with students of the ages three to five years old. At this institution I was able to expand my knowledge of students in an educational setting of an age I was previously unfamiliar with. I now have the knowledge to manage students of this age group. I also have learned to build rapport with these young students through my calm demeanor and creative personality.
In addition to being experienced with students of a young age I have had the opportunity to work in a few different special education environments in elementary school settings.
I was able to become comfortable in a co-teach inclusion classroom. In this fourth grade setting I was able to work in a small group with the students with IEPs as well as those students who were functioning on or above grade level. I recently completed my graduate student teaching placement in a 4th/5th grade self-contained classroom where I was able to apply the knowledge gained through my graduate courses in a realistic environment. Through my organization and management skills I was able to differentiate curriculum and appropriately address the common core standards. While holding high expectations for my students, I was able to set realistic objectives that were met through the lessons I taught and reinforced through a variety of assignments that I designed.
Thank you for reviewing my résumé and cover letter and considering me for this position. I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully yours,
Ariel Brisman
